Torre del Conde
Torre del Conde (Parque de la Torre del Conde, 38800 San Sebastián) — there’s no entrance fee at this San Sebastián de la Gomera tourist attraction, since there’s no entrance to begin with. The Earl’s Tower is to be enjoyed from the outside, with its surrounding park offering a great picnicking area.
This is the tower that local beauty Beatriz de la Bobadilla barricaded herself in 1488 (as the local aborigines, the Guanches, rebelled at the antics of her governor husband, Hernán Peraza). Saved by the governor of Gran Canaria, Pedro de la Vera, it’s rumored that she went on to enjoy an affair with Christopher Columbus as he stopped by on the island before his first voyage to the Americas in 1492.
